organic moisturizer
  • i am working on an organic cream. Even with 12 % shea butter, 8% cupuacu butter, 4% bees wax, 5% almond & orange oil, .5% xanthan gum, the final product looks lotion like and instable. O/w with homogenisatn. Any suggestion? Any organic thickeners for body?
  • Increase Xanthan gum level?
  • I am new to organic formulations. I think I am doing something wrong more than xanthan gum level.
  • Well, yeah.  You haven't added an emulsifier.
  • will beeswax not work as emulsifier?
  • You need borax in there as well. Google Beeswax Borax emulsifier for more details.

Or add a separate emulsifier on top if you don't want borax in there but need the 4% Beeswax

  • I dont think I want Borax in a topical Day Vream.

What kind of separate Emulsifier you refering to? I tried 5% Organic Certified Emulsifying Wax, but didint do much.

Do you think increasing Shea butter and Cupacua butter to 20 and 8%  respectively and going with w/o would help?

I also have 10% Organic Alchohol needed to be added in this formula. Should I just dump in the end below 30C ?

  • Unless your product is anhydrous, increasing the butters will not necessarily lend stability to the mix.
You need a proper emulsifier, cupuacu is a co-emulsifier at the most. Check theherbarie.com, they have a wide range of "natural" emulsifiers for you to study.
